Or at least state in the documentation which it does, so people know. The far better way, imo, especially for single big surges, is to have the fuse cut the power entirely. In almost all surge protectors, all that happens when that fuse blows is that the strip continues passing power to the devices plugged into it, and an LED goes out, showing that your devices are now powered but unprotected. Obviously, that isn't good, so there is a fuse to disconnect the MOV from the circuit when that happens. So be it one big surge or lots of little ones, the MOV eventually ends up as a permanent short circuit. There's a limit to how much power the MOV can drain, though, and it's a cumulative thing. Some also protect hot to ground (L-G) and neutral to ground (N-G). When the voltage gets too high, the MOVs in a surge protector will partially 'short circuit' the hot to the neutral (L-N) to drain the extra energy, which lowers the voltage. I also, presumed, that if a surge protector had been needed, things not on one would blow, letting you know you had an equipment damaging surge? I thought Surge Protectors 'blocked' - like a fuse- but it seems they only mitigate or reduce the surge.? You use the word blocking -I suppose because everyone dose- and I'm just trying to get it right. Because it stops passing power when it's no longer effective at blocking surges.
